Warminster Community Theatre

Latest news - we have been awarded a grant of £2000 by ‘Community Champions’, (funded partly by the Department of Education) to set up a community theatre group in Warminster.

WHAT’S THE WARMINSTER COMMUNITY THEATRE?

It’s a new drama group we’re setting up in Warminster. We aim to do at least one full length play each year. We hope to draw cast not only from Warminster but from the surrounding villages in the area.

WHO DO YOU NEED?

For our first production we need both actors and backstage people to run the show. Talent isn’t the most important thing we’re looking for. We’re looking to set up a group of friendly folks who want to work together to create something worthwhile.

CAN I JOIN?

Yes, anyone can audition. We’re looking for adults, so we prefer people over 16. There’s no upper age limit. You don’t need any previous acting experience, but you must be willing to join in and work with other people. Part of the funding we’ve been given is to pay for training for the group.

TELL ME ABOUT THE PLAY YOU WANT TO DO

The play is a comedy, called ‘The Comedy of Errors’. It’s about two sets of identical twins. They’ve been separated since childhood, and then they meet up again, without realising who’s who, when they get totally mixed up with each other! Chaos results.

The play will run for about 2 hours. One of the reasons we’ve chosen this play is that the acting load is reasonably well spread out across the play. There are no large leading roles.

WHAT ARE THE ACTING ROLES IN THE PLAY?

There are a large number of speaking parts. We also need a group of men and women to play sailors, waiters and waitresses, gangsters, shop keepers, tarty ladies and tourists. These are essentially non-speaking parts, but they will be on stage for a considerable amount of time, so there will be a great deal of character and comedy acting involved.

DO YOU NEED PEOPLE BACKSTAGE?

Yes, we need people to help build and paint sets, make costumes, and help in the stage management team.

We also need a production assistant to help run the show. This might suit an ‘A’ level drama student who wants to train in production skills.

If you’re interested in working backstage please email me on davebizone@blueyonder.co.uk and I’ll contact you.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF THE PERFORMANCES?

We plan to perform at the Athenaeum Theatre in Warminster, during the evenings of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of November 2007.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT REHEARSALS?

We will rehearse twice a week, on Sundays and Monday evening. We won’t need all the cast for every rehearsal, but before you commit to the show you need to realise that it is a big commitment of your time.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF THE AUDITIONS?

The auditions are ongoing through July, August and September 2007. For details phone me on 01985 300 031 or email me on davebizone@blueyonder.co.uk

HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS THEATRE WORK?

Click back on this website and look round at our previous work. It’s the same team who will be running the Warminster Community Theatre.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

After our November production we plan to do several one act plays in April or May 2008. Of course our grant will have run out by then, but we hope to be financially self-sufficient at that point.

For the end of 2008 we hope to do another full length play, perhaps a modern costume version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. But it’s early days yet to be planning for the end of next year.

I NEED TO ASK A QUESTION

Email me on davebizone@blueyonder.co.uk and I’ll try to help.

See you at the auditions . . . . . .

Cheers,

Dave Hollis
